Snorkeling at The Villages

Kiritimati (Christmas Island) in the Republic of Kiribati has the largest land area of any coral atoll in the Pacific — about 150 square miles (388 km²).

Because The Villages sits on the Lagoon side of the Island, you may reach reef zones quickly, making it perfect for half-day or afternoon snorkels. The Villages is a comfortable base near Tabwakea with access to these snorkeling areas:

• The outer-reef edge is just a short boat ride away.
• The general reef system stays uncrowded due to Kiritimati's low tourism volume.
• Snorkeling near the edge of London, the main village on Kiritimati (Christmas Island). The Villages is about 2.5 miles (4 km) north of London.

Best Time and Conditions:  Snorkeling is good year-round.

Skill Levels:  Shallow lagoon zones are beginner-friendly; outer reef drop-offs are suitable for intermediate snorkelers.

Practical Tips:  Bring reef-safe sunscreen, avoid touching coral, check tides and channels, and consider a local guide for the more adventurous outer reef wall. The Villages offers direct beach access for quick entry.

Gear:  Bring your own snorkeling equipment as the Lodge does not provide any gear.
